Life Goes By Too Fast!

Can you believe that it is almost Thanksgiving? Life truly goes by too fast! Kate is going to be 5 in just a few days. I can't beleive it--my Baby Kate! Here's a quick update on life in our home:

1) Everyone is in tears over the BYU loss to Utah. Preston and Madison are scared to go to school because of the taunting from U o U friends! Jenny's voice is completely gone since she screamed for 4 hours straight at the game. And we have to come clean on some bets we made with the neighbors, so Jenny has to streak her hair red and make Utah cakes for about 5 different families!

2) Preston was in the Shakespeare production of "The Taming of the Shrew" at his school. They put on a mini-Shakespearean Festival with a greenshow, acrobats, music, and play. He did a great job, although we don't really think that acting is his thing!

3) Kate is having a bowling party with 12 of her closest firl friends to celebrate turning 5! She is so excited. She is loving preschool. This past fall she has learned how to make a pumpkin pie and even churn butter (skills that her mom is yet to take on)!

4) Tessa talks way too much. Yes, it is cute. . . but is never stops! She has an opinion on everythin and she already holds grudges! But she can get away with anything because of her face!

5) Jason is living vicariously through a brother-in-law who is buying a cruiser bike. One day!

6) Jenny is so dang excited for Christmas that she makes the family watch Christmas movies with her every night!

7) Madison has lost her two front teeth and she can't wait to get a retainer!

All is well at our home and we look forward to seeing more of everyone over the holidays!

Fall Dance Recital

I thought you all would want to see our cute, nieces at their dance recital. They did so good, Alicia and I were so proud of all of you. I guess I will speak for Alicia and I that we have had a fun time with the dance class these past few months. We will be starting up again in January. Good job girls we love you

We're Moving

Well, we were officially offered a position up in Dyersburg and we decided to take it. The other CRNA's and employees were fantastic. The CEO is 35 and has 3 kids the same ages as ours. He said the branch is small, but great. The atmosphere is great. The town has a nice feel and we're excited for the change. The group here in Memphis was sad to see me go, but they were very understanding and wished me the best. Our realtors are coming over Monday night to strategize, and we will be putting the house up for sale in February. Ardith met with the school principal, and was impressed with their set-up. Housing is very affordable, and land is plentiful. It will be a nice change. We'll talk to you all soon. Here's a picture of what Allison likes to do with endotracheal tubes. Not quite what the manufacturer had in mind, but it is a fashion statement. Love, The Ketchers

Hello Y'all

Well, I can't believe it's less than 5 weeks to graduation. I can still remember our fiasco move to Chicago to start this 5 year process, and now the end is here. Since graduation is the same day as Matthew's birthday, he and I are going to have quite the party. Ice cream and cake galore! Over a year ago, we took a job with a group in Memphis. Just a week ago, we were approached by a smaller hospital up in Dyersburg, which is about 70 miles north of us. It's an all CRNA group that needs some more help. The other LDS guy in my class took a job up there, and so we decided we would check it out. It's a great clinical opportunity, as there are no other anesthesia providers. It's just you, managing everything, doing everything we've been trained to do. They asked the entire family to come to an all-day interview this Tuesday. They sent a wonderful itinerary, where Ardith and the kids get to meet with the principal of the school, go see some parks, all while I'm checking out the anesthesia department and facilities. They have lunch for all of us, a realtor to show us around town, and then we all meet with the CEO of the hospital (who is LDS and in the branch up there). We will let you know how it goes. We met with Kenna's teacher who said she is wonderful to have in class. She is always participating, behaves well, and will always help out. It made us feel nice. Allison loves preschool. One of the girls in our ward runs a preschool from home. She made her finished attic space into a classroom, and Allison loves it. The teacher has a little two year old and he and Alli have become the best of friends.  It's fun to see Alli so concerned and protective of this little boy!  Matthew got sick a while back and as it usually does, once one gets sick we all get sick. So for the past 2 weeks and going we've been battling colds and the croup.  If I hear one more person cough. . . . . . Caleb started eating rice cereal and I am a very proud parent to say that he LOVES it!  I was so scared we'd have another Matthew, but he's doing great.  He is such a cute little boy, and I can't believe he is already 5 months old, he's almost sitting up and is just so adorable.   We hope everyone will have a nice Thanksgiving, and we'll keep you posted!

autumn

Dear Family,
I have decided that I m going to learn how to do this so I am not afraid of trying to find out what is happening to our family and look at all your cool pictures.  That is my next step is to figure out how to put pictures on, not that I have that many.  But as boring as a letter is without pictures, you'll just have to wait til next time.  Update on those of us here.  Isaac finished football today.  The game was with Alta and we won't mention the score, but they improved in the second half.  He'll find something to occupy his after school time I am sure.  Doubt that it will be homework, but we can keep hoping.  Actually, his grades aren't that bad for the load he has had.  He might fail seminary, but that is the only things.  His dreams still consist of a motorcycle and watching himself drive off (fast) in the sunset or up a hill or over a sand dune.  Dream on.  Dad ties flies, goes fishing, or mostly watches Hannity and Coombs.  What will he do after the election?  Be sure to vote and remember the early Americans and what the Revolutionary war was fought for and those founding fathers' dreams of America.  Sometimes I think that the big and spacious building is next door.  It feels like it anyway with so many people throwing out values and common sense.  Okay, let's turn off those guys and continue.  Me, the musical is over, thanks to all who came, that was very nice of you.  The visiting teaching enrichment is over, and thank you Catherine for all your late night help.  Now it is just back to a normal (whatever that is) routine.
Here are things Dad and I really like:  Your coming to visit whenever it is; inviting us to programs, games, and other special events;  Sunday dinners; when you come and help in the yard and play; pictures; thank you notes or any letters;  and lots more and it all has to do with you, our family.
Some things to look forward to:  Thanksgiving will be on thanksgiving, Nov. 27.  Those who can come let us know and those who can't can come , come on Friday. We will have left overs and play.  Then eat some pie.  In December, Aaron graduates on Dec. 5.  We will be going back to cheer him on.  On Dec. 13 is the Jon Schmidt Concert.  Those who have spoken for tickets are Miriam and Jordan, Hyrum and Jenna, Dad and Mom, and I have four left.  Gingerbread houses will be on the Saturday afternoon (around 3:00 p.m.) and each child should bring their own house or train or bus or whatever to decorate.  This seemed to work well last time.  We will provide the candy and frosting and  anything else to make it interesting.  Most of you have your Christmas Eve traditions now, so we will just come visit you on Christmas.  We might be going during the break to do something with Isaac and anyone else who wants to join us.  Probably snowmobiling up at Yellowstone.  (Okay, that brings back memories, but we have to create some for Isaac.)  If there is snow we will organize a sledding party and try to have some fun.  If there are other things you would like to host or do let us know and we will schedule them in.
Jordan is having a baptism tomorrow.  Wayne and Donna are being baptized.  Beth, the other one, has moved and is finishing the lessons there.  He has admonished us to make sure our food storage is intact.  Also pack one bag with duct tape, scissors, pocket knife, matches, plastic bags, etc. rope, anything that could help out that way.  We often forget the things that make all the difference.  Let conference messages be our guiding post this next six months.  FHE can always be an adaptation of a talk.  We need to burn it into the hearts of our children that they must follow the prophet no matter what.  The very best thing you can do is to teach your children to pray, to love the Saviour and to choose the right.  It is a mad, mad world out there and will become less safe as these next few years unfold.  Stay close as a family and spend time with each of your children.  Love them and teach them.  There will be less problems in the future if you teach them the gospel now.  That takes time and effort but it is worth every sleepless moment.  We love you and love what you are doing.  We love your children and are so thankful for you.  We pray for each of you every day.  Stay happy and as this festive season approaches, may we be filled up with giving thanks.  "Count your many blessings , name them one by one.  And it will surprise you what the Lord has done."
                                                                                                                                                  Love you, Mom and Dad

Live from American Fork!

So, it being my turn to write our entry I have some kudos and gratitude to give out.

Thank you to Alicia, Travis and Family for making it a great conference weekend for us. We sure had a great time and the accomodations were awesome!

Thank you to Mom Pitt and who ever else watched our kids so I could go down to my Grandma's in SLC. It was good to see my Whitchurch family especially my Grandma. And thank you as well for helping us make Rebekah's birthday a memorable one!

Mostly though I want to give my kudos (great job) and gratitude to my wonderful husband. Ryan has been so supportive to me and the kids in all we do. He always has our best interest in mind and has been a real trouper in getting to be with the kids a lot more on the evening nights when I have to be gone for YW or dance. I am forever grateful that we met so long ago in the summer of 1994.

Well, September was full of fun and birthdays for us as I know it was for most all of you. We had fun celebrating Matthias' first birthday as I already posted and then a couple of days later Ryan and I had a great date out some friends of ours to celebrate Ryan's birthday. (A BIG thank you to Hyrum and Jenna for watching our kids that night!) In between the Matthias' and Ryan's birthdays, Ryan and I got to run a relay marathon with a couple of our friends and their brother. It was so much fun! We both really like to run, but it was real cool to do it in a relay and be on a team. I think the next race I am shooting for is another half-marathon some time the end of next summer.

The kids are all thriving and doing well. We just had parent teacher conferences and one of our children's teachers said "I wish the whole school was full of Pitts!" and I replied back that he could fill a couple of classrooms full of them. Anyway we are grateful are kids are having a generally positive experience in their education. I grateful I am to educators who value the individuality of each child in the classroom and looks for ways to magnify their great spirits.

Our soccer season ended last Saturday. Both Joshua and Lydia played this year and did a great job. Rebekah took the year off. She is loving her dance class and I think her teacher too. She really is an amazing dancer and it is so fun to watch her move so gracefully. Lydia is enjoying dance, but keeps asking me when she gets to go to gymnastics. Sarah is loving dance and pre-school and every day she wakes up saying is it "dance day or pre-school day?"

Our lives are full and then some, which has made me grateful for the quiet (or not so quiet) moments of the day where I get focus on just playing with kids or reading stories or just talking to Rebekah. I find that when I recognize these moments of my life that I really have nothing but gratitude to give to my Heavenly Father. What more could I ask for than a loving family, a home to raise them in and the gospel to share with them!

We hope you all know how very much we love all of you near and far. You are always in our prayers and our thoughts. Have a great October and a very spooky Halloween!

Love the Pitt clan in AF

I am now a Blogger!

So it has taken me almost a year to figure this out. Well, actually it just took a call to Ryan, but Jenny and I are officially on the blog site. There is a lot we could write about, but the most exciting thing that has happened in our lives lately has been our trip to Italy. It has been a month now since we left. We planned the trip for over three years, and I cannot believe how fast it came and how fast it went. We had the most amazing time. We started out in Venice where, as you all know, the streets are not streets but canals. You know how they say the city is on the water. Well, when we were there, they were definitely right. We got there just as a massive rain storm hit and flooded the main square. Water was up past our ankles. It was a crazy experience. We then went to Pisa where we participated in a, Mass that was held in a beautiful cathedral right next to the leaning tower. It was all in Italian, but we felt the spirit of those priests who had given their lives to serve God. We left Pisa and traveled to Cinque Terra. Cinque Terra is a region along the Mediterranean Sea made up of five cities joined together by hiking trails. This place was Italy at it's finest. The pace was slow, the people were nice, and the views were breathtaking. All of the cities are set into the mountainside overlooking the sea. The surrounding areas are made up of terraced grape and lemon tree vineyards. Dad would have loved to see their jet black soil. No wonder they can grow anything over there. We then went to Florence. The city of the Renaissance.

The highlight of this city was mixed for Jenny and me. Jenny would say it was the Ufizi gallery, an amazing collection of the most remarkable paintings of the Renaissance period. Or, she might say it was the Academia where we saw the David statue by Michelangelo. I, on the other hand, would say the highlight of that city was renting a scooter and cruising around the town. Scooter drivers are crazy in Florence and, besides the convenience of getting around the town, driving with those crazy drivers was awesome. Actually the real highlight of Florence for both of us was the gelato (Italian ice cream) I think we had gelato at least five times a day in Florence.

We then traveled to Voltera. Voltera is a castle town set in the heart of Tuscany.
It was as if we were back in time. The roads were cobble stone and narrow. The shops were quaint. The people didn't speak English, and the food was unbelievable.

The best part about Voltera was driving through the countryside to get there. We arrived just before dark and the city was all lit up. It was as if we were driving up to a medieval castle.

We went from Voltera down to Rome. We finished our trip with two days in Rome. Rome is unbelievable. It is ancient city meets big city. We ate in great squares and saw amazing buildings. We saw the Coliseum, the Pantheon and the Vatican. We listened to an Italian opera in St. Mary's Cathedral. There was so much to see and do in Rome. I have to say that our entire trip turned out perfect. Our planes were on
time, our luggage got there in one piece, our GPS lead us to every place we needed to go; and, for the most part, the weather was great. I must say that the best part of the trip for me was just simply being with Jenny. She is so much fun to be with. We have been married now ten years, and every year gets better and better. I absolutely love being with her, and going to Italy together was amazing. We will blog again soon. Love Jason, Jenny and Kids

P-TOWN

Well family my in-laws happened to run across our family blog and reminded us that we hadn't written in quite some time. I do apologize for that and submit that we will do better. Just to fill you in on the most important news....are you ready for it....we got a Bosch mixer. I know very exciting huh. So ok that isn't the most exciting news however its amazing was how priorities change once you get married. When i was single i only invested in music, shoes, and an ocasionaly arby's melt. Now that I am married i am constantly searching online for nice comforters, curtains, and kitchen appliances.

So on to the real important and exciting stuff. For those of you that don't know, Jenna and I are both taking full loads here at school. Jenna is taking 18 credits, and I am with 17.5. We both work, I as a TA for the framing class and the electrical class and Jenna works in the testing center. We both involved with our respective majors acting in various leadership roles in our clubs. I just found out that I got chosen for the Design Build competition team so I will be putting in a lot of time for that. We will be going to Reno next semester to compete and probably to Vegas for a convention. We were called as the ward greeters in our ward and are in charge of the program each week. Last week we failed miserably in our duties since they were reorganizing the bishopric and didn't happen to tell us. We just put down "Testimonies" for the program like any normal fast sunday but were suprised when no testimonies were given. Oh well, we tried. Other than that we frequent the Lavell Edwards Stadium every home football game and enjoy our second row seats, watch an ocasional movie, and check the paper for coupons and specials. Jenna also manages through all this to always cook a great meal and she has a place looking pretty sweet. (you are all welcome to come over whenever you want) Needless to say you now know why I am not going to re-read and edit this after I get done...I simply do not have the time.

Well thats about it. It was really good to see some of you over conference weekend and really fun to come to some of the many soccer games that happen each week. We love you all and hope you all well.

WITH A LOT OF LOVE,
HYRUM & JENNA

Matthias Turns One!

Okay, so we're a bit late with this one. Just wanted to share some photos of Ty turning one. He had a great day. Lots of presents, balloons and a yummy Elmo cake that I had a lot of fun making. The professional shots are ones my friend Julia took. Anyway, hope you are all well and we are so looking forward to conference! Enjoy

ps: I don't know why the pictures look so off. Still working on that.

AF Happenings

August started out with a fun date at USANA ampitheater where we saw distinguished country singer Martina McBride perform. Tickets to see the show were actually a birthday gift to Jen this past May. We had a great time though and very much enjoyed seeing her perform and listening to her great songs (and she has many). I, myself, am not much of a country genre fan, BUT, there are a few country singers I really do like and she is one of them. Mainly because her songs keep that country "twang" to a minimum and the lyrics are full of God, faith, hope, and love.  Anyway...it was good to get out and we thank Mom and Dad for watching the kids while we had that fun evening.

Soccer started up for Lydia and Joshua during August. They are both quite the stars on their teams and do a good job. They are fun to watch and we're grateful they get to use their talents. (Rebekah is a good player too, but opted out this year due to everything else she's involved in). Dance started up too...Jen continues to teach for a few hours once a week and Rebekah and Lydia are in her classes which is fun. Joshua started scouts officially and is working on his Wolf badge; Rebekah continues taking piano lessons; Sarah has a blast at both pre-school and a dance class of her own; and all the kids have great core teachers this year for which we are grateful. Matthias is officially walking all over the place and has FINALLY cut four teeth. He continues to be a joy for all of us. All in all, the kids stay busy though we have tried not to overschedule them as we've been directed by our general authorities :)  Family time is still the funnest time and we love Monday nights and Jen and I love to see the kids enjoy playing together at least once a week as we have a "family day" and give the friends a break.

Our garden started really producing this past month and I think the kids are officially "squashed" out. We have so much squash that we've been freezing it to use during the winter. The beans have been yummy and our tomaotes are finally turning red. It's been a great little harvest and even the kids have looked forward to watering the garden and picking off the goods for us to intergrate into our meals.  Thanks again to Dad for his help in getting it up and going.

While Jen, Rebekah, and the two youngest stayed home from the Bear Lake excursion, Joshua, Lydia and I really had a great time. We want to thank all of those who were there who gave of their time, their food, and their water-expertise in helping us have an enjoyable couple of days. You guys are great!

On a sad and somber note, we had quite a tragedy hit our neighborhood this past week. One of the families I home teach--the dad--was turned over to the authorities for molesting his 5-year old daughter. As sick as that is, it's also very sad and heartbreaking to see the ripple effects within the family. The mom and the seven or so kids are hanging in there and we're all praying for them as much as we can. As the word got out and the kids found out, we had to deal with the subject--and tried hard to explain things at a level that was appropriate. This was challenging and not very fun, but I think we did OK and they are praying for the family as well.

Well, before ending this post, Jen and I just want to say how grateful we are to a loving Heavenly Father who keeps us going even when we're stressed and life is full of challenges. We've come to understand that when we are weak, then we truly are strong. Relying on Heavenly Father and having faith in Christ is the only way to live this life and to feel the joy and happiness that's available to feel. As we seek inspiration in our callings and in our conversations and dealings with our kids, we know we'll be OK if we're trying to live right.

Talk to you all soon!

PS: I've started my own blog just out of a desire to write and also out of a desire to heed the suggestion of Elder Ballard :)  There aren't a lot of entries yet and I don't post that often, but you can take a look if you're so inclined...

thoughts...

Dear Family,
Probably, when you see that I have written something, you don't want to read it because it is always so preachy.  I guess once a parent, always a parent, always trying to teach when you can and do all you can  to fill that responsibility.  Dad and I don't lead a very exciting life, full of tales to tell you all, but you knew that already.  I will say that there have been some things on my mind, and part of the reason I haven't written for awhile, is I get carried away.  You are all wonderful and we love you very much.  You and your families bring us much joy.  We love watching the kids grow and you grow as parents in your abilities and understanding.
The last while I have thought about the big and spacious building.  For as long as I can remember, I have termed it "the world" or the bad stuff that is out there, but it seemed a little ways off, especially when I read the story in the Book Of Mormon.  People pointing fingers, laughing at our ways, scoffing at how we dress or talk or the goals we have.  Lately I have realized, that ole' big spacious building might not be so far away as we would like it to be.  In fact some of those people in the building may be some that go to church but during the week they laugh at us, point their fingers or see nothing wrong in looking and talking like the world.  The brethren have said that it is becoming harder and harder to tell the saints from the world because we are beginning to blend in a bit too much.   When we go to the temple and they turn on the lights a little more towards the end,  I think it is symbolic that we are asked to walk a higher path, one that sets us apart from the world.  The world slides in so carefully.  We don't even notice sometimes how quietly little things begin to change because we don't pay close attention or it becomes the "in" thing.
Each week at the sacrament table we promise to keep the commandments. Not conveniently, "but always remember Him  and keep His commandments which He has given them."  It talks about exactness in keeping the commandments, and I see in my own life, if I am not careful, I begin to think something is not as bad as it used to be, because of .....there really aren't any excuses.  I think we have to be willing to be complete in our desire to do the right thing even if it is hard.  I ask myself some questions often and when totally honest some of the answers aren't what they ought to be.  Some of these questions are,  What does my heart really desire--really deep down?  What is most important to me?  What am I willing to do to make sure those important things come to pass?  Are the things most important in line with the teachings of the Savior?  Is Christ and His teachings really first in my life?  Do my children know  by what they see, hear, and participate in that Christ is the center of our family?  Is my house built upon the rock, or is the foundation starting to get sandy?                                             I think of the scripture included in the Young Women's theme, I will stand as a witness at all times, and in all things, and in all places and as I review my day I wonder if I have done that.  All of us can work on  becoming exact in keeping the commandments, being complete and full of integrity to ourselves and to others.
Really, we want no empty chairs at our table, including ours.  As I stated before we love you so very much and we recognize all the good you are doing.  You are serving your families, in your wards and stakes, and your communities.  You are doing so many good things.  Maybe this little rendition is just for me.  Love one another and stay true to the faith. We will always love you.                                                                Mom and Dad

Dear family,                                                                                                   Sept. 1, 2008
Another week come and gone.  I hope you enjoyed my slightly longer letter last week.   This week's will be short again seeing as we had to do some serious shopping.  Good news is though, is that the cereal was on sale so we stocked up big time.  You would have laughed to see us checking out at the grocery store.  We also had to finish moving today.  I'm not sure if I mentioned it but we are now living with a different family.  I'm still adjusting to the change a little.  We live kind of off in no man's land and our living quarters are small but they are very nice.  Sometimes a little change is good to keep ya on your toes.
Well, the update on Wayne is a good one.  He is continuing to read, pray, and come to church.  We found a good fellowshipper for them and his wife finally joined us for a lesson and seems interested as well.  The greatest part is that they have both recognized blessings in their lives because of the gospel.  Wayne admits that he is considerably more happy and confident.  It is really cool.
I must mention that the highs and lows of this week were, shall we say, very extreme.  I think in order for me to continue to progress I needed to be humbled a bit.  I have recognized over this past week that there are some major weaknesses that I need to overcome.  I am doing my best to do better and to pray for help, but the hard thing is that there is never enough time to really evaluate and make plans as to how I can improve in the different areas.  Time just goes so fast it's like I'm just trying to get by.  I guess I just need to really make it a priority because now is probably the best time I'll ever have to work through many of my imperfections.
As a companionship Elder Williams and I are really trying to work on applying things we learn and study about.  That is always the hard part, applying it.  It has been fun to see us grow.
The ward here is trying to get the members more involved in the missionary efforts.  President Jensen gave us some direction from Elder Perry on how that should work, so we are trying to make it happen here.  But it is tough.  Members are so busy and are so scared to share the gospel.  It is kind of frustrating being only 19 because I want to make so much happen but I have to be careful not to overstep any bounds.
Well family, life is good.  Challenges and trials push us towards becoming who God wants us to be and for that I'm grateful.  Stay safe and be happy.
                                                                                                                                                      Love, Elder Pitt

Jordan

Dear family,
What did I tell you, this past week flew by.  It truly amazes me how fast the weeks go.  Well, transfer calls were last night and both Elder Williams and I are safe.  We'll continue serving together here in So. Royalton for at least another 6 weeks.  We are excited about it.  We are however changing houses.   We will be living with the former Bishop and his wife now.  So that will be a bit of a change.  We are working on coming up with some new goals and plans for this new transfer.
Mom I think I'm pretty much fine as far as clothes go.  Although, new ties will never be turned down.  As far as things for my birthday, you could probably just save all the money and put it towards the purchase of a laptop when I get home or something cool like that.
So I will start with the update on Wayne.  He is so amazing.  He is reading from the Book of Mormon most every night as well as praying and he's come to church 3 times now.  He has the best most sincere questions and he agrees with everything we teach.  He basically knows most of the gospel, but just doesn't know that he knows it.  He fed us dinner this past week and we met his wife.  She is really nice but isn't too interested yet.  She is Catholic and she works on Sundays.  Wayne will have some Word of Wisdom issues to overcome, but we are confident in the converting power of the gospel.  He is a joy to teach.  We just need to be able to teach him more often.
Oh, mom, I just thought of something.  It would be nice to have some thank you cards to give people.  I think you can buy like cheap ones in packs of 25.  I can't find any out here but if you could maybe send some sometime, that would be great.
Alright, back to the update.  We had a really good week.  We found 10 people who said we could come back.  We are hopeful that a few will work out.  We'd love to be able to teach more than just one person.  But we are still grateful that we even have one.
We are working on trying to be more united in our teaching Elder Williams is a little quiet so we are trying to find ways so that we are always both talking whether it be on doorsteps or in lessons.
This week there was a neat experience.  A woman in the ward passed away due to cancer leaving behind a husband and 6 young kids. (That is not the neat part.)  What was neat was the way the family handled it.  They have been so strong and amazingly at peace.  They have a real testimony of the plan of salvation and it shows.  The husband is really into missionary work and so the whole funeral was centered around that.  All the talks were basically letting people know what we believe and how that can bring peace.  There was a dinner after so all the nonmembers could mingle with the members.  It was really neat that this man, Bro. Dunkle, truly sees the importance of missionary work.  Enough so that he would be willing to use his wife's funeral as a way to teach others the gospel.  He is an amazing man.  I do feel bad for their family though.
Exciting news, Elder Dennis B. Neuenschwander of the seventy is coming to the mission in a few weeks.  He will be speaking at our Zone conference.  The weath has finally gotten better.  It reained for about two months straight but we've been dry for a few days now so that has been nice.
Alright, I think I'll end on a spiritual note.  I gave a talk in District meeting on the doctrine of testimony so I will share a few highlights.  Just like our faith, our testimonies must always be centered on Jesus Christ in relation to the judgment.  We must gain a testimony of Christ and stay true to it.  Christ who was our perfect example also had to gain a testimony of himself.  In Jesus the Christ, it talks about how Christ had to gain a knowledge of His divine role and who He really was.  He had to stay close to the spirit and pray often to gain this testimony.  Satan's temptations were also temptations for Christ to doubt or deny that testimony he had received.  Satan, likewise, wants to get us to doubt our testimonies of Christ because they are so important.  I believe that our testimony of other things is only as strong as our testimony of the Savior and His role in our lives.  We must continually cultivate and strengthen that testimony throughout our lives.
I want all of you to know that I know that Jesus Christ truly is the Savior and Redeemer.  He loved us all enough to make an atonement for us so that we can be with God and our families forever.  I know that Christ is the Son of God and the only way back to Heavenly Father.  I'm grateful for His perfect example.
Well, family, I sincerely love you all.  I hope that things go well as you all transition back into the school year.  I am well and happy and wish the same for all of you.                                                                                                                           Love, Elder Pitt

We just wanted to thank mom and dad for all the work they put into letting us go up to Bear Lake again this year. We had so much fun, despite the few who were sick, the rest of us had a blast, here are some pictures we had, that are fun to see. We loved spending time with all

Dear family,                                                                                                                                           August 11, 2008
Is it P-Day already?  Wow, days go by so slow but the weeks just fly by.  I decided that P-Days are the most stressful day of the week.  There is alwys so much to do I almost don't look forward to them.  ha ha.  I wanted to thank all those who sent things this week.  The mailbox was consistently full so that was great.  I love the pictures and notes from the little kids.  They are the best.
Well, for sake of time I will launch right in to the miracle story of the week.  For a couple weeks now we have been praying and fasted for just one someone who has been prepared and really wants to learn.  In the Book of Mormon I read about Amulek's conversion and decided that was who we were out to find, someone like Amulek.
Well, after praying to find someone like Amulek we received a referral from Salt Lake City for a man named Wayne Olado.  He wanted a Book of Mormon after visiting temple square.  Well, we visited him this week and he told us all about how he spent two and a half days at temple square while his wife was in a convention.
He is a contractor and has done really well in life.  But as he told us, he has always felt like there ought to be something more to life than making money and working.  He said that he has been looking for real peace and happiness and that the people in SLC had it.
He came to church on Sunday and had a tour up at the JSM.  He enjoyed it all pretty well.  We can't meet with him this week because of his work but he said he might come next week to church.
Obviously it is really early yet and there is likely to be a stumbling block or two but we feel like he is the answer to our prayers.  Now we have begun to pray that Satan will be held back until Wayne can gain a strong testimony.  Pray for him too.
God answers prayers.  We are excited to have someone to teach.  We pray that we will be humble so that things can move forward.  On that note, I'm grateful that this is God's work and that I'm just an instrument.  Have a wonderful week.  I love you all.

Bear Lake

Ear Family,
Hope everyone is excited for our Bear Lake extravaganza.  Here are some things to help us be organized.
1.  Label everything you bring.  Last year taught us that although we are family we can lose things.
2.  If you have life jackets for your family, please bring them with you.  We are trying to have enough so when we are down to the lake all can be having fun at the same time.
3.  Bring an umbrella if you have one that is big enough to stick in the sand and shade us.  We have a canopy, but in the bear lake wind it didn't do much.
4.  Bring jackets for all.  The nights have been getting chilly there.
5.  Every family will be in charge of food for breakfast and lunch for their own family.  We will combine for dinner. (see schedule)
6.  We have some lawn games but if you have something appropriate your may bring it at your own risk!
7.  Sand castle toys are always fun.  We have some left from last year we will bring.

Dinners;
Tuesday:  Grandma and Grandpa

Wednesday:  Catherine and Miriam

Thursday:  Jenny, Jenn, and  Alicia  (it will be our biggest night)

Friday:  For those who are left, perhaps there will be left overs like last year

Dad and I, Isaac, and Travis' Family will be coming home Friday.  Dad and I fly out to Portland Sat., Isaac has a hockey game Friday, and Travis and Family have some rehersals on Sat. for our Stake musical which you are all invited to see.  (Sept. 18, 19, and 20) I don't know if there are others.  We have to be out on Sat. by noon, but if a family wants to keep having fun hey! sounds good.
We are going up on Tues. and some of the older kids might be invited to come.  We found a lake with a rope swing, a small stream to fish and a cave if we want to go.  It is a ways a way.  We will let you know those details soon.  Travis will be bringing the boat, ( or us depending on how many kids come) and Jason the jet skis.  We hope to have a great time and a safe time.
If I have forgotten anything I will let you know, or you can e-mail or call with questions.  Every couple has their own place to stay this year so that will be a bit different, but hopefully good too.  See ya next week!
                                                                                                                   Mom and Dad

p.s.  I know this went to some of you who are unable to be with us this year.  We hope we can get this on the calendar earlier next year so maybe you can join us.  We love you Ammon and Natalie,  Ardi and Aaron, and Hyrum and Jenna.

Eight is Great!

Hello everyone!

I think the big news since the last time we wrote is: YES Lauren can walk!! I told her that Nursery would be rough if we didn't spend more time working on it at home. Although I kinda missed the "Frankenstein Walk" stage, it was pretty funny to see her just decide one day she was going to do it, and on July 4th she officially took off. I think Lauren was holding out for the holiday too so that it would be easier on her dear mother to remember exactly when it all started. She has officially gone to two weeks of Nursery as well (ok, she only stayed one hour the second week, but hey). The last few weeks have been incredibly crazy as Jerem and I have completely tag teamed. First he was at Scout camp for a week, then Rachel, Melissa and I went to Cedar City for a few days and then Jerem and Dad went fishing. phew. It will be so fun to be all together at Bear Lake for a last hurahh before school starts.

Thanks to Papa Pitt, I've been reading a lot about family work and establishing the cause of Zion. To have these quotes running through my mind like that all day and making more divine what I am doing continually has been a real blessing. So easily do we lose perspective. It also made me so grateful for the examples of Mom and Dad Pitt, who seem to never lose perspective. I'm grateful for a good home, I'm grateful for Jerem who I'm ever so indebted to my Heavenly Father for giving me to, I'm grateful for little people to snuggle with and who forgive and love so easily, I'm grateful for the gospel, I'm grateful for a wonderful family who I learn from and love so much, I'm grateful for rocking chairs and reading the cross-stitch that Grandma Marshall made for me "Cleaning & Scrubbing can wait till tomorrow....", and when cleaning can't wait till tomorrow....I'm grateful for magic erasers and 409 and washing machines and vacuums, I'm grateful for ancestors who have gone ahead and shown us that even when life is really really hard, that through Divine help we can make it.....and we should turn to that example in conquering hard things now although usually not as physical as their's were, and I'm grateful for our Savior who has shown us the way and made it possible to live with Heavenly Father again. We love you all and pray for you. Thank you for who you are and how that makes raising our family so much easier and better.

Love, Catherine and Jerem

Happenings from American Fork

Dear Family,

While I have a magical moment I thought I would post our entry for August. July was a full month and we are so amazed at how much can happen in one month.

First, thank you to everyone who came down and supported Joshua in his decision to be baptized. What a special day that was and we are so thankful for all of our family and the love they give us!

As most of you know I got a new calling this past month. I have the opportunity to serve as the young women's president in our ward. I am loving the calling and learning so much! The girls I get to serve are amazing and I feel lucky to spend Sundays and Tuesdays with them. Ryan has been a trooper having to shoulder the night time and Sunday family load a bit more. I couldn't ask for a better husband!

We also had the chance to go to a Jorgensen family reunion at Bear Lake that was awful for the parents and lots of fun for the kids. Our sleeping conditions were of such that neither of us parents slept more than 1 to 2 hours and Rebekah & Matthias managed to not sleep much either. Top that off with the problems I have been having with my eyes as late, getting the van stuck etc . . . we left the trip a night early so that we could get some sleep. It all worked out and like I said the kids had a fantastic time playing with new cousins (my cousin's kids) that it worked out just fine. I still am having problems with my eyes but we are going to a different doctor on monday and I hope he can help me out more than my optomotrist was able to. And we are all looking forward to an opposite experience at Bear Lake in a couple of weeks.

We want to thank Mom and Dad again for taking the time to come down and be with our kids while Ryan and I got to go celebrate a belated anniversary. We had a great time going to dinner and then to the Martina McBride concert where we had awesome seats and got to hear great music! It was nice to have a night out where we didn't have to worry about the kids and just spend time together. It's been a while for that to happen.

The kids are doing great. Matthias got his first tooth, he's only 11 months :) and the kids are ready to start school in a week. Soccer started for us this past week! Dance starts back up in about two weeks! Can we believe that fall is right around the corner?!

Ryan and I are planning on running a relay marathon with some friends of ours. So we have been having fun with running with friends, and looking forward to the challenge.

Not much else going on here. I know I am looking forward to seeing everyone at bear lake. It feels like forever since I have seen many of you and we sure do miss you!

Hope you all have an amazing August and know that we love you down here in AF.

Love Jenn, Ryan, and the crew
Dear family,
I'm sorry but this might just be the shortest letter yet.  We finally had enough miles to go do many of the things that we've been needing to do.  So that took up a lot of time.  More than expected.  It is amazing how quickly P-days go.
Well, the theme of this past week was referrals.  We talked about them in district meeting and also the assistants gave us some advice on them.  So we really did our best to apply the things we were learning and ask for referrals as often as we could remember/  We saw many miracles from doing so.
We found a couple people this week who might actually be interested so we will hope and pray that things go well when we visit them again.  The one investigator we have (Timmy) is still really struggling with WOW problems and doesn't seem too motivated to change, so we will see.
Many of the testimonies at church were about missionary work so that got us excited.  Hopefully the ward will begin to get more excited and involved.
Well, family the time is continuing to tick so I must be going.  Thanks to all who have written lately.  I will try to write back some of the nieces and nephew soon but in the mean time, thanks for all the presents and notes.  I absolutely love them.  Thank you all for your prayers and love.  I wish you the best.  Until next week.                                                                                                                    Much love, Elder Pitt

Mary's Musings

Hmmm...what to talk about this month. Oh yeah, I turned 28.
Ummm...so far it's pretty much the same as 27. Happy Birthday to
Jenna who has the best birthday in the whole world as well, and is now
officially no longer a teenager. Let's see...I had an article come
out in the Wasatch Women magazine. I know I showed a couple of you,
but if you haven't had a chance to read it, it should now be out in
stores. It has a picture of Jill Stevens (Miss Utah) on the front.
It is an article written by Brooke Walker (a host for Studio Five)
about eating disorders. I would be interested to hear your reactions
to it. I am pretty pleased with how it turned out, particularly
because it focused on perfectionism, OCD, and an eating disorder being
a product of that vs. just wanting to be skinny. I think in this
mormon culture, perfectionism is a big reason for a lot of the ills
that are in effect. Anyway, I hope it can be helpful to someone.
I have quit going to my neurofeedback brain therapy. Once again my
doctors and I hit a wall and "they just don't understand why my brain
reacts so differently than they expect and usually see." Hence, they
just don't know what more to do with me...and I can't blame them, I
certainly know how that feels. Oh well.
I am excited for Hyrum and Jenna to be returning to Utah soon--it will
be fun to have them around more. Miriam and Jordan, so sorry to hear
about your basement--and your lawn. When it rains it pours. Ryan and
Jen and family, hope you are all feeling better. It's always fun to
have Jason around more when his family is gone (though we miss Jenny
and the kids). Leesh and Trav, your mailbox looks great on your
doorstep :). We miss the Tennessee-ites as always and I can't believe
I haven't even seen my latest nephew yet. I'm excited for Kenna and
Alli (and mostly Ardi!) to be starting school for the first time soon.
If any of you haven't heard Melissa play the violin yet, you should
ask her to play for you. She's a concert violinist in the making.
And, I think that's about all. Love you guys--thanks for all your
prayers and support.
Love always,
Mary

Johnson's July

The summer seems to be going by quickly…school is just around the corner and I am doing the unthinkable…sending my baby to kindergarden, which means all the kids will be in school, and yes that means a little more free time, but it also means that the kids are growing quickly and before we know it, they will all be teenagers and then missionaries, and married, and wow!....I just hope to live to see it all.  But like Jenny always says to the kids, “you can’t get older…you can’t grow big….you have to stay my baby forever.”   Sometimes I wish I was back in the olden days of 4 kids 5 and under, all at home, all right where I can see them.  But then again, it is so much fun to watch them get bigger.  Their appetites are bigger…(a little crunch on the food budget)  There brains get bigger…as they are so smart in so many ways.  There skills get bigger, as we have watched Tanner advance in guitar and Marshall play in soccer tournaments.  And their testimonies are getting bigger…as we watched Friends and Family of Kymbles get baptized and Tanner got to go to scout camp with Travis and learn a lot of great things.   We survived the Johnson Family Reunion which was at our house.  The kids loved playing with cousins for 4 days…loved the day on the lake, and of course g-ma and g-pa “j” whom we don’t get to see very often.  Thanks to mom and dad for letting us swim and eat and watch movies and borrow tables and chairs.  You are constantly serving us and we appreciate it.  We are looking forward to Bear Lake and hope to see most of you there.  And those that aren’t…we always miss you, talk about how we miss you and hope to someday see you there as well.  Till next time…signing off…The Johnson Crew

Dear family,                                                                                  July 21, 2008
Just so you all know I won't be able to check my e-mail while I'm in this area.  All the libraries nearby are closed on Mondays.  So---break out those pens again and give the old fashioned way a try.
I guess i"ll just give you all the brief about the new area.  The area itself is a tough area.  It is huge geographically but there are basically no big towns so all the houses are spread out.  It is close to where Joseph Smith was born.  The church building is by the monument so I'll be there at least every week.
The teaching pool.  There is only really one man we are teaching and he has been taught for months and months.  Hopefully we can help him finally decide to be baptized but he has some big word of wisdom issues he'll need to overcome.
the members.  There hasn't been a baptism in a long time so the members aren't too fired up but there are some really nice people here.    They  are trying to get the ward more excited about missionary work.  There are some members who have already said they will help us out when we need it so that's good.
The living arrangements.  We live in the basement of the Bishop's house.  He is really young and kind of interesting but he is     a good guy.  His family is up in Canada right now so we haven't met them.  (His wife is Canadian.)
Transportation.  We do not have close to enough miles.  The area is just too big so it will be tough.  We drive a 2008 chevy Malibu which is nice but the past two Elders used most of the miles so we have been biking a lot.  Apparently missionaries here have to bike in order to be able to do everything they want.  Biking has been tough especially in the rain but our spirits haven't been dampened even if everything else has.
The companion.  Elder Williams is from Sandy, Utah.  He has only been out one transfer (6 weeks)  but he is an awesome kid.  He wants to work hard and be obedient so we are getting along very well.  I like him a lot.
We have been working really hard trying to figure out who's who and where's where as well as trying to find people, to teach.  We haven't had a lot of success yet, but it really isn't getting us down.  We are happy and we know we will see miracles soon.
                                                                                                                                                    Love Elder Pitt

Dear Family,                                                                                                                July 28, 2008
Another week come and gone.  The New Englanders are beginning to talk about how winter is just around the corner.  I can't really believe that but I guess it is not too far. I'm just excited for the fall that comes between then and now.
I think that I probably worked harder last week than any other week of my mission and in all the areas, that is, spiritual, physical, mental, social.  But I can also say that I haven't been too much happier (at least consistently) at any other time than I am now.  I truly feel live I am giving it my all and doing my best.  That doesn't mean there isn't room for improvement though, because there certainly is.
The brethren have said that in Northeast North America missionaries ought to be teaching at least 20-25 lessons a week.  I don't believe I have ever done that in my 6 months out so it's definitely a challenge.  Bur Elder Williams and I are taking it personally and we created a plan that I think will help us achieve our goal.  We've seen some improvement but we still have a ways to go.
President Jensen came out teaching with us for one lesson this past week which was cool.  The assistants also came and tracted with us.  On one day we biked 32 plus miles and on another we walked probably 15 or more.  Timmy, our one real investigator, come to church yesterday.  The members have been feeding us fairly well.  We sat down and talked with one of the senior couple missionaries here (there are many) and talked about what they do.  (Mom and Dad, I'm excited for when you can go.)  We had interviews with the President this week.  We also found a few potential investigators.
I really don't have too much to say and I kinda feel bad about it.  I know my letters have been short lately.  Maybe that's a sign that I'm working hard or maybe just that the work is a bit slow in this area.  Maybe a little of both , I don't know.
Elder Williams and I are trying to consistently pray that we will find at least just one person who is actually really interested in learning.  Just one that we can really focus on teaching and progressing.  We'd appreciate your prayers, too.  I love you all.
                                                                                                                                            Love, Elder Pitt

3 MORE WEEKS!!!!!

well family i must apologize for not writing for so long. i really don' t have an excuse but i want you all to know that Jenna and I are doing great down here in sin city. as of today we have just over three weeks til we will be in the motherland again, and with these 107 deg. days i will surely be glad to get out of the heat. i will be sad however to leave my job and the people i have worked with. that have been so great to me and i really have learned so much. don't tell mom cause she won't be to happy but they have pretty much offered me a job when i graduate. i am not sure if i could do the vegas thing, it has been fun but i really miss the mountains and cool nights and most of all my wonderful family. however it would be a great opportunity to work with this company again they really treat their employees right. jenna and I definitely haven't made any for sure decisions yet but its good to already have an option for career.

some of you might be wondering about what the house picture is doing on our blog but i just wanted to show everyone where they will be able to find Jenna and I for the coming up school year. after many attempts to sign contracts we finally stumbled onto this one and it was exactly what we were looking for (except for the pink kitchen). we are really excited and hope that it will be good even though we have never been there yet. i emailed everyone about keeping your eyes open for a cheep washer and dryer. or even free if someone is just trying to get rid of it. please just let us know if you hear anything.

well i am sure that most of you are wondering about how we feel about being married now that we have been married for so long...haha. and i tell you what, it is better than i could have imagined. i really am thankful i found jenna and that she took a chance on me. sometimes we reflect on how fast the process went and wonder why none of you tried to stop us...we did it crazy fast. but we know that the lord is behind it so that's what really counts. our love for each other grows with each day, and i feel like the luckiest kid ever.

we found out a bit ago that the family trip is the same time that we will be in Cancun on our belated honeymoon. we feel horrible about it but we just didn't know when we booked everything so there is not much we can do now. just know that we will be thinking about you all and realizing that you all would rather be with us. anyone up for a tan contest....cancun vs. bear lake?

well to finish off i just wanted to thank all those who gave us advice about insurance stuff, from the looks of it we will probably go with USAA. anyhow thanks again for everything we really love you all. have a wonderful august and we will see you all soon.

July21

Hey Family,

Natalie, Noah and I sure do love it up here in the Pan-handle of Idaho.  Work is going well.  Church is keeping us both busy enough.  Some weeks we have 2 missionary discussions, and a new-member discussion in our home.  It's fun to be part of the missionary program so much.
Noah is doing great.  Still no words yet.  Funny, 3 months ago he said ball and bubbles, but a week later he resorted back to oooh and hasn't said a thing since.  His doctor said if he doesn't start talking by 18 months, to take him to a speech person.  Any suggestions by those who may have had a similar experience?  Otherwise, Noah is awesome.  I really see a lot of me in him, not really in looks, but in his personality and it's so fun.
Natalie is doing great in young womens, and daily shows how strong she is at staying on top of what's important.  She's so patient, loving, caring and compassionate to all who are around her.  She's a great example and I'm so lucky she's mine.
Work for me is going just fine.  I love my family and feel so lucky for all of our blessings.  We are waiting to here back from some landowners about our proposal to buy 25 acres of beautiful country.  As soon as we know, we'll let you all know.  It's pretty exciting.
We think of many of you a lot, and hope y'all are doing great.
If anyone needs to get away and enjoy a little R and R, our house is always available.

Love you guys:  Nat, Ammon, Noah

Summer Fun

I first want to thank everyone that could make it to Meggie's birthday party. She loved all her new presents and toys. Even though everyone thought I was crazy for bringing Santa to her party, to this day she still brings it up, she secretely liked it. I cant believe she is already two. Anyway this summer has been fun with swimming, bike riding, Lagoon and parks. Ever since Jacks preschool stopped, he has been acting out more so I put both kids in gymnastics, to give them something to look forward too. We took the kids to Lagoon this past week and they had a blast. Jack wanted to ride all the big kid rides, but the only one that he could ride was the Bat, he loved it. Meg was satisfied with Puff the Dragon. We are planning on going to Disneyland in September and the kids are now so excited cause we told them its just like Lagoon but 10 times better. Jordan and I are heading off to Vegas this next week. Jordan had a conference down there and his work is paying for me to go too. Anyway we are meeting up with Hyrum and Jenna so that will be fun. We are going to see circus o le and Les Mis. It will be a fun week. Well we hope all of you are having a great summer too. Love the Browns
