Thanksgiving...C-Ville Here We Come!

Family,

Well Jenna, Will and I are all very excited to be able to see everyone over the Thanksgiving break.  Just so that you know, we will be around for some of Wednesday, all of Thursday, and Will and I will be around on Friday (Jenna has to fly back on Friday morning for the wedding of one of her best friends.)  Since this holiday basically revolves around food and eating, I just wanted to send out a little reminder about Will's food allergy. (you might be getting kind of tired of getting these emails every time there is a family function and we are hoping that he will someday grow out of it and I can stop with the emails ).

Just as a recap of the issues...

1)  Will's worst allergy is Nuts, this is all nuts, not just peanuts.  If possible please avoid.
2)  He is also allergic to eggs however not as severe.
3)  I understand that since Thanksgiving basically centers around the Food, there are some "special" thanksgiving dishes that involve either nuts or eggs, it that is the case I don't want to ruin the tradition, however, Jenna and I would ask that you PLEASE let us know what the dish is so that we can stay away from it.
4)  We would appreciate if you would check the "Second Level" ingredients.  By this I mean that all "dishes" are made with multiple ingredients.  Some of these ingredients could contain nuts or eggs.  For example (this doesn't really apply to thanksgiving but make the point), say I was making Lasagna.  Main ingredients are, noodles, tomato sauce, cheese and meat.  Well if you look on the labels, many noodles have eggs, almost all store bought spaghetti sauce was manufactured on equipment with nuts, and if you use certain kinds of sausage for your meat, it may contain eggs.  Just an example but you get the picture.
5)  If you do eat anything that has eggs or nuts, or if you know that your kids do, Please wash your hands and remind your kids to do the same.  I know you might not go from a PB&J to playing with Will but if the other kids play with toys and get PB on them and the Will comes along and sucks on it...there will be some problems.
6)  If you have any questions at all about Food allergies, please feel free to ask.  I know is may sound crazy but we eat very well without eggs or nuts.  We have found many substitutes / alternatives and would be happy to share what we have learned.

I hate that we always have to bring this up but as most of you are parents you understand that you want to protect your kids.

Once again, if you have any questions, just let us know.
Thanks, and see you soon.

New House and our Mummy!

Hey Family!

I know, you haven't heard from us in a while...sorry about that!  We finally have pictures of our new house, of Elizabeth's first birthday and of Noah this Halloween!  Noah chose to be a mummy this year and we were glad that he even agreed to dress up since last year he refused to put on his costume and ended up carrying it around trick or treating.  We have started moving and we'll hopefully be living in our new house by Tuesday or Wednesday...we are so excited to have a little more space.  Elizabeth's birthday was great (and Mary, that coat is darling!)  Ammon's early morning seminary class is going well and I think he's feeling better about it...and the students love him, how could they not!!!  Young Women's is going well, too, and I'm learning a lot how much Heavenly Father loves the youth of the church...I've never had so many spiritual promptings so often.

We love you all and now that we have an extra room, that means we can even have more of you come visit (hint hint) !!!!

Elizabeth eating her birthday cake.  Yes, that is a goose egg on her forehead...she is a climber and a runner!

Noah's scary Mummy face!

Our new kitchen.  You can't see it very well in the picture, but the cabinets are a really pretty cherry color.  Ammon picked out the flooring and we love it...it has the color of the cabinets mixed in (we took it at night because we were starting to move things in and wanted to take pictures before there were boxes everywhere!)
We put this in because the color of the tiles around the fireplace are the same as in the front entry way...we really like how it turned out!

We haven't been able to take pictures of the front of the house because it's been so rainy!  But we'll post one as soon as we can :)

mom and dad's present/winterizing date

Dear mi familia,

Well, it's nearing the end of Oct. and we still haven't set a date for a time to "winterize" the house.  I don't want mom and dad to think we weren't serious about it.  Maybe everyone could e-mail which sat would work the best in the next few weeks.  We need to get it done before thanksgiving for SURE.

Hope everyone had a good fall break.
Love,
Mary

My new tunes...

Dear family,

Thank you so SO much for my birthday gift.  I love it.  It means so much to me that you all took the time to think of what songs you wanted to share.  I'm very excited to get a little more "in the loop" as far as music goes--so tell all your kids thank you for that as well.  I finally have a copy of all of those Hannah Montana and Justin Bieber songs I've been
wanting! :)  Honestly though, because music is so good at bringing back feelings and memories associated with it, I'm grateful to have some new stuff to hopefully help me kick off my new decade right.  When I need my 90's music I have it, but when I need something totally new I have that now too. So thank you so much.

love you guys!

love always,
Mary

this week...

Just for the heads up this week, tonight the former stake presidency is having an open house for Pres Hemingway and his wife who just returned from being mission president.  They should be here for a while, I'm not exactly sure.

I also know that Hyrum and Jenna are planning on coming on Friday, and I think Ammon and Natalie are coming to town about then as well.

That's all that I know.  Happy b-day Alicia dear!  Oh, that reminds me, for any of you music gurus--I don't know how to download or anything and even if I did, I wouldn't know WHAT to download cause I'm kind of out of the loop--I am in desperate need of a few new music cd's to listen to.  I am very tired of all the ones I have with songs from the 90's. :)  A cd of some fav music would be a good b-day present...:)

love you fam,
Mary

plans...

Hey fam,

In an effort to coordinate any activities here at the house, I just wanted to give a heads up--Sam's (extended) family is in town for a family reunion and I've invited them to have their family testimony meeting here tomorrow night since Paul and Martha's house isn't big enough to fit everyone.  They'll be here from about 6-10 pm.  (I just didn't want anyone to accidentally show up in the middle of it. :)  Also, I know Miriam is planning on having some friends over on Fri, July 9th, (at night) and then the next day out in the pool.   If there is anything else going on, just let me know.

Hope everyone is having a good 4th!

Love,
Mary

Invitation :)

Hello Family!

We wanted to let you know (if you didn't already) that we, as a family, have hopefully started a new tradition while we're here in Moscow. We hope to have a couple of nieces/nephews come up for a few days every summer for the years that we live here. It's a good chance for them to see some new places, do different things, and for us to get to know our nieces and nephews better and for them to get to know our family too.

Rachel and Spencer came in 2008 and we had soooo much fun! We didn't have anyone last year since Elizabeth was soon to come, but we're hoping to have a couple of our wonderful nieces and/or nephews come this summer. Some things we did with Rachel and Spencer: picked huckleberries, went to Coeur d'Alene to a theme park close by (Silverwood), we went to a lake about 20 min. away to roast steak chunks & go fishing, and did fun stuff around Moscow. They flew into Spokane (about 1 1/2 hr. drive from Moscow)...in case you want to look for tickets.

So, this year, we decided that instead of just going in order from oldest to youngest, we'd just see if there are any nieces and nephews who would want (and had time) to come and do something like this. We know some of the kids have lots going on in the summers and others are home-bodies, so if your kids do have time and want an adventure...email us back quickly!!!

A couple of other things...we try to have two come at a time (so they have each other and so we can fit in our cars!). We will pay for 1/2 the plane ticket and we'll cover all the stuff while they're here. This summer we have a young woman staying with us from June 27th until July 17th...so we are free any time besides those dates.

Think about it and let us know!!!

Love,
Ammon, Natalie, Noah & Elizabeth

We'll be there on the 17th, Ammon will leave with the brothers on the 21st and then he'll leave for Moscow on the 26th and the kids and I will stay a little longer and fly out May 1st. We know you're all busy, so don't worry about it if you can't come, we'll hopefully see everyone there at one time or another!

We can't wait to see you and sure love you all!

wonderful talk...

So, Jordan sent me a copy of a talk Elder Glenn L. Pace gave at a BYU devotional a few weeks ago.  It is a beautiful talk on the divine nature and destiny of women--one that I think everyone should read.  It reinforces the beauty and importance of marriage and our individual, divine natures.
Anyway, I loved it and I wanted to share.

Love,
Mary

Life...

Julia sent me these and I was laughing out loud. Partly because they are funny, and partly because they are so true...:)
Love you guys!

Life is like an onion; you peel off one layer at a time and sometimes you weep.

Life is just a phase you're going through...you'll get over it.

addresses

Hello family,

I was just wondering if those family members who have moved recently or live away could send me their current address. (Ammon and Nat, Ardith and Aaron, Hyrum and Jenna, and Jordan P. down there at BYU.) I have most of them I think, but I want to make sure I have all the right info cause I'm trying to correctly update all the lists around here that are wrong. :)  Thank you much!

Love,
Mary

P.S. If you haven't seen the newest addition, Evvy, let me just say that she is SOOO CUTE!  I'm not biased or anything, but all Auntie prejudice put aside, she really is a doll.  Good work Miriam and Jordan. :)

family power

Dear family,

I just wanted to say thank you for adding me to Caleb's fast yesterday.  As mom and dad suggested a family fast for Caleb, I remembered how much power comes from a united fast and how great it is to have such a big family to add their own individual power to that fast.  In thinking about all of this, I realized that I haven't accessed that power very much lately cause I didn't want to be a bother or burden.  However, I'm hoping all the combined faith will help.  By way of explanation (cause I don't know what mom told you)  I have been having a lot of problems with my eyes lately.  Long story short, they've formed what is like a callous on the eye and sometimes the callous grows so big that it covers the pupil.  I've had a lot of blurriness and other problems and there's not much I can do about it...which is why I thought of a family fast.  Also, I started a new medication not too long ago and I'd really like for it to help with the anxiety and depression.  So far I haven't noticed a difference either way, so mostly I just feel like I need some direction in finding something that will help.

Anyway, thank you again.  I love you all super much and I'm thankful to be your sister.

Love Always,
Mary Elizabeth Pitt Hess
